'I like you, you're natural' Prisoner Adaptation, was produced in 1998 at a Artist Run Initative Kym Maxwell ran from 1997 to 2000. Inspired by Andy Kaufman's painfully personal comedy of the 80's, his candour and humour are used as a starting point for this video work. Maxwell requested her friends to 'act out' the 'Prisoner' script transcribed from a found episode on VHS (Prisoner is an Australian soap opera set in the Wentworth Detention Centre, a fictional women's prison screened on Channel 10 in the 80's) her casual approach to direction with no run through or prior reading of the script required the actors to develop their characters during filming. Shot in 3 hours and exhibited at Phyco City Gallery in 1998 it has never been presented on the big screen.

Actors: Adele Danielle, Pegs Marlow, Joy Bell and Justin Fuller. Director Kym Maxwell, edited from VHS onto a Betacam mixer. 13 mins in length. This video was screened at the Backflip: Feminism and Humour In Contemporary Art video lounge, curated by Laura Castagnini, at Margaret Lawrence Gallery 2013; to be screened at Tele Vision Festival, Carriage Works, Sydney November 29th, 2013
